Preparation, exposure, and tailor-made support toward basketball and academic opportunities in the United States

Joining a school or university in the United States through basketball is an ambitious goal—but one that is fully achievable with the right preparation, mindset, and guidance. That is exactly what Baz’n Camp offers through its camps in France and, most importantly, in the United States.

Each year, several players who attend our camps receive concrete offers from U.S. schools, often accompanied by partial or full athletic scholarships.

1. Understanding the American Academic and Athletic System

In the United States, basketball is closely tied to the education system. High schools, prep schools, and universities (NCAA, NAIA, JUCO) recruit players who are able to perform on the court while also integrating academically and personally. Players are not recruited based on statistics alone. What truly matters includes: their athletic profile, development potential, attitude, discipline, and ability to adapt to a demanding environment.

2. Physical Preparation: A Non-Negotiable Requirement

The physical level in the United States is high. To realistically aim for a school placement, players must prepare several months in advance. At Baz’n Camp, physical preparation includes development of explosiveness and mobility, basketball-specific strength training, injury prevention, endurance and the ability to sustain effort, intensity and pace aligned with American standards. This preparation allows players to arrive physically ready, capable of competing from the very first practices or tryouts.

3. Mental Preparation: What Truly Makes the Difference

Mental strength is often the decisive factor. In the U.S., competition is constant and pressure is real.

Our camps focus on building self-confidence, managing stress and external pressure, learning to embrace competition, daily discipline, a mindset centered on work ethic and progress. Successful players are coachable, open to feedback, able to work behind the scenes, and ready to seize opportunities when they arise.

4. A Unique Environment: Coaches and Agents Present at the Camps

One of the key strengths of Baz’n Camp—especially during our U.S.-based camps—is the direct presence of American coaches and agents specialized in school and university recruitment.

This allows players to be seen in real-game conditions, be evaluated over several days, interact directly with decision-makers, understand the expectations of American basketball, significantly increase their recruitment opportunities. Each year, this exposure leads to concrete offers, with athletic scholarships covering part or all of tuition costs.

5. Administrative Preparation: Planning Ahead Is Essential

Joining a U.S. school cannot be improvised. Success also depends on thorough administrative preparation, starting several months in advance. Key elements to anticipate include:

  • the student visa (F-1 or J-1),
  • overall costs (tuition, housing, insurance, transportation),
  • possible testing (English proficiency, academic level),
  • academic records and transcripts,
  • communication with schools and host families.

Baz’n Camp supports players and families in understanding and navigating these steps, helping to avoid mistakes and secure the project.

6. A Long-Term Project, Not a Quick Fix

Joining a school in the United States is a long-term life project that requires commitment, consistency, and patience. Players who succeed are those who are willing to work over the long term, step outside their comfort zone, challenge themselves, fully invest in their personal project. Baz’n Camp does not sell instant dreams, but rather a method, a framework, and real opportunities for those ready to put in the work.

7. Personalized Support Toward the United States — Even Outside the Camps

Beyond its basketball camps, Baz’n Camp also supports any young athlete who wishes to build an academic and athletic project in the United States, even if they do not directly attend one of our camps.

Thanks to our strong and long-standing relationships with U.S. coaches, schools, and partners, we are able to secure for each player:

  • an athletic scholarship of at least 50%,
  • for one semester or a full academic year,
  • within a school tailored to the player’s profile (high school, prep school, or university).

This support is built on a fully customized approach, far removed from standardized or one-size-fits-all solutions.

8. A Project Built Hand in Hand With the Player and Family

Each project begins with an in-depth assessment conducted with the player and their family. The goal is to define a realistic, coherent, and sustainable pathway by taking into account several key criteria:

  • current athletic level and development potential,
  • academic level and school requirements,
  • desired balance between basketball and academics,
  • city and living environment,
  • housing type (on-campus, host family, residence),
  • overall budget and available financial support.

This process allows us to target tailor-made schools, where the player has real opportunities to grow, develop, and perform—both on and off the court.

9. Securing the Project and Maximizing the Chances of Success

Thanks to our field experience and deep understanding of the American system, we guide families through every step of the process:

  • selecting the most relevant schools,
  • connecting directly with coaching staffs,
  • negotiating athletic scholarships,
  • anticipating administrative procedures,
  • understanding academic and athletic expectations.

The objective is not simply to join a school, but to succeed during the year in the United States, within a secure environment that is well-adapted and conducive to the player’s overall development.
